Primal Energy
A new damage type that represents the raw, untamed forces of nature.
Primal energy is a natural force that flows through all living beings, sustaining nature and shaping the world around us. While it can be harnessed for the benefit of society, it can also lead to environmental disasters. With these new rules, players can explore the power of primal energy and unleash its potential in their adventures.
Primal damage
Condensed primal energy can cause harm to creatures, robbing their vitality to disperse it back into the nature. This is the new primal damage that most damage spells from this compendium use. The damage can be visually represented as a see-through green mist with white and/or yellow dots floating around it, like pollen. Discuss with your DM on how to implement this damage type and settle on a representation that works best for their world.
Creatures may be resistant, vulnerable or immune to primal damage. Most elementals should be resistant to primal damage. Elementals of fire and plant creatures could also be immune to the damage. Fire burns through nature and stops it's growth, while plants could utilize primal energy for their own benefit. You could even rule that plant creatures get healed instead of taking primal damage. However, creatures made of water could be vulnerable to the damage, as primal energy can absorb their essence to nurture more effectively. Undead creatures could be resistant or immune to the damage, as their vitality is almost depleted. Ultimately, the decision for how each creature behaves against primal damage is up to the DM's discretion and how their world works.
If you wish to overlook this new damage type, but still would like to use the spells with primal damage, you may use another damage type your table agrees upon. Some suggestions may be force, necrotic or poison damage, or any type that fits best for the spell.
